Principal’s Message

Dear Mendez Community,

We are very proud this year to celebrate our 15th year anniversary.  I feel blessed to have been here all 15 years.  First as Assistant Principal from 2009 to 2011, and then as principal from 2011 to the present.

We have a motto that reads, "Champions in the Classroom and Champions in Competition."  Our students and staff have certainly lived up to these high standards.  We have one of the highest offerings of AP classes in the District.  To be more specific, we offer over 20 unique AP classes in Math, Computer Science, ELA, Science, Social Studies, Art, and World Languages.  Plus, our percentage of students who take AP classes and our percentage of students who pass AP exams is higher than the District average.  Further, in our short existence, Mendez High School has 11 CIF L.A. City Championships in Boys Soccer, Girls Cross-Country, Boys Cross-Country, Softball, Boys Volleyball, Competitive Cheer, and Baseball.

We are also very proud to be designated as an official LAUSD Community School.  This means that our school is a hub for the Boyle Heights Community.  In January of 2023 we opened a new Wellness Center for our students, families, and Boyle Heights residents.  And, in September of 2023 we open a new Parent Center.  We look forward to an outstanding 2023-2024 academic year.

Thank you.

Mr. Mauro Bautista
Principal of Mendez High School
